A ‘hidden’ garden in North Wales has been named one of the best in the world by a new study. Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens in Anglesey was named the second highest rated gardens across the globe, beaten only by the Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Arizona, USA.

The award-winning gardens are nestled between the Menai Bridge and Beaumaris and in the process of being restored after the present owner bought the Plas Cadnant Estate in 1996.

The gardens include a walled garden, a secret valley garden with waterfalls and a river, and an upper woodland garden. They’re open from April to October, with tickets for adults costing £10.50, children 6-16 £2.50 and children five and under go free.

Researchers from InsureandGo found the world’s best gardens by analysing reviews for more than 100 botanical gardens worldwide, and ranked them according to which ones have the highest percentage of four and five star reviews, as well as creating an index to rank which countries are best for plant lovers to visit.
