Texas authorities disrupt two illegal migrant smuggling operations, thousands still get away

Texas authorities nabbed 15 illegal immigrants during a recent attempt to smuggle them into the United States as they bailed out of the vehicle and tried to flee. Dashcam and bodycam footage released by the Texas Department of Public Safety shows an Oct. 7 vehicle chase in Kingsville between the alleged smuggler in a work truck and DPS troopers.

The latest revelations about the year-long controversy over false claims that Border Patrol agents "whipped" or "strapped" Haitian migrants are likely to exacerbate already sour relations between Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and agents. Fox News reported Tuesday how Mayorkas was told hours before a White House press conference in September 2021 that the photographer who captured a clash between Border Patrol agents and Haitian migrants in Del Rio, Texas, days earlier had said that the incident was being misconstrued.

A group of roughly 30 Venezuelan migrants were surprised to learn that they will be returned to Mexico under a new Department of Homeland Security policy announced on Wednesday.  Fox News correspondent Griff Jenkins approached the migrants in Eagle Pass, Texas, shortly after they were apprehended on Thursday.  "Did you know Venezuelans will be returned to Mexico now?" An Indiana man accused of smuggling three migrants crashed his car during a high-speed chase in Uvalde County recently, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.  Richard Diaz, 21, allegedly told police that he was being paid $3,000 per person to smuggle the migrants from the border community of Eagle Pass to San Antonio.  He was charged with two counts of human smuggling causing serious bodily injury, Texas DPS spokesman Christopher Olivarez told Fox News Digital.  The driver sped off during an apparent traffic stop in Uvalde County, Texas.  (Texas Department of Public Safety) Dashcam footage shows the driver accelerate away from an apparent traffic stop at night. The family of 17-year-old Erik Cantu, who was shot multiple times by a former San Antonio police officer while eating a hamburger in a McDonald's parking lot earlier this month, said Tuesday that the teen is still on life support.  "At this time, there is no improvement in his condition. A San Antonio teenager's grandmother turned him in to police after discovering he allegedly shot his sister's boyfriend while on drugs. Florida police arrested six looters in Fort Meyers on Saturday for allegedly stealing high-end sneakers and other items from an outlet mall. According to Lee County's Sheriff's Office, Carlos Reyes Carmenates, 33, Mirna Abstengo Quesada, 33, Roberto Didier Enamorado Reyes, 30, Daymase Varona Reyes, 35, Alain Banzo Dieguez, 19, and a Hispanic teenager who is 14 years old traveled from Broadway Avenue to the outlets.  Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno referenced the incident Saturday during a briefing on Hurricane Ian recovery efforts alongside Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
