Mexican prosecutors have launched an investigation into the alleged machete attack of a Utah dad vacationing with his wife in Cancun for Valentine’s Day. "The Attorney General's office is announcing that an investigation is underway regarding the apparent illegal deprivation of liberty of a tourist of U.S. nationality, which occurred in Cancun in February 2022," the Quintana Roo prosecutor’s office told Fox News Digital.

ATLANTA – Stacey Abrams is blasting Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp for enticing increased Chinese investment in the state despite what she says is the greater threat to national security it could bring, as well as the potential surveillance of Georgians by the Chinese Communist Party.

Kelly Ripa says the reason she did not have a great relationship with the late Regis Philbin could have been due to their age gap. Ripa wrote about her working relationship with Philbin in her book, "Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories." Former North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley, the state's Democratic candidate for Senate, received an endorsement from a major racial justice group that supports defunding and disbanding the police. The political action committee (PAC) for Color of Change, which former Obama White House adviser Van Jones co-founded in 2005, announced in August that it would support Beasley's bid for Senate in large part because of her platform of "reforming the criminal justice system." Color of Change regularly posts on social media in support of anti-police policies and the Black Lives Matter movement. "Police brutality shows us that more cops in Black neighborhoods doesn't keep us safe, it harms Black people," the group tweeted in 2020.

The death of Kiely Rodni, a California 16-year-old who vanished after an end-of-summer high school party near Lake Tahoe in August, has officially been ruled an accidental drowning, authorities announced Thursday. Rodni was last seen shortly after midnight at a large party near the Prosser Creek Reservoir, in the Tahoe National Forest near Truckee, California.  Authorities initially treated her disappearance as a possible abduction and searched the area for more than two weeks without finding any signs of the missing girl or her vehicle, a silver Honda CRV. Despite conducting more than 100 interviews, investigators struggled to locate anyone who had seen her leave the area – accessed by a bumpy dirt road.

A group of roughly 30 Venezuelan migrants were surprised to learn that they will be returned to Mexico under a new Department of Homeland Security policy announced on Wednesday.  Fox News correspondent Griff Jenkins approached the migrants in Eagle Pass, Texas, shortly after they were apprehended on Thursday.  "Did you know Venezuelans will be returned to Mexico now?" Jenkins asked the group.  "We did not know anything," one migrant said.  A group of Venezuelan migrants were surprised to learn from a Fox News correspondent that they would be returned to Mexico under a new Biden administration policy announced this week.  (Fox News) "Please receive us, have benevolence with Venezuela, because we are in need," another migrant told Jenkins.  Other migrants said they "have nowhere to go to in Mexico" and that the country "is dangerous."  The Biden administration announced a new border enforcement operation with Mexico that includes a parole program to provide a legal pathway for Venezuelans.  A Venezuelan migrant couple seeking asylum kiss after crossing the Rio Bravo to turn themselves in to U.S. Customs and Border Protecction agents to request asylum in El Paso, Texas.

Past and present support for certain policies related to crime from left-wing Senate candidates could be a hindrance for Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections as they seek to maintain control in Congress. At least four Democrats running for Senate positions around the country — John Fetterman, Rep.Tim Ryan, Mandela Barnes, Cheri Beasley, and Sen.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) said Thursday she believes Democrats are "wasting money" by focusing on abortion in races across the U.S., as Republicans emphasize crime, the economy and the border crisis.  The congressional candidate joined "The Faulkner Focus" to discuss how Democrats are failing to address issues affecting the American people.  "Normal people, normal voters, they're talking about gas, groceries, grandkids.They're talking about long-term solutions to the challenges that we're facing," she said, adding that "abortion is not the issue" that will motivate most voters.

The White House denied it should pivot its economic policies Thursday after September's consumer price index indicated Americans are still battling record-high prices just weeks before the midterms.  Jared Bernstein of the White House Council of Economic Advisers joined "America's Newsroom" to discuss the latest inflation data and why the Biden administration should not alter its current policy.  "Because the policies that we're doing to help mitigate and ease price pressures are having effect," Bernstein told Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino. An American tourist claims that he was kidnapped and left for dead at the end of his vacation to Mexico last February. After visiting Cancun with his wife, Dustan Jackson said he decided to call a cab to take him to buy chewing tobacco while they waited for their flight back to the U.S. His driver said he knew a store that sold snuff, but the tourist claims he was actually kidnapped.  Jackson said he was ambushed by machete-wielding muggers as soon as he got out of the car.

Law enforcement officers in Arizona discovered 72,000 suspected fentanyl pills during a traffic stop leading to a police chase involving a fleeing suspect. Police said the suspected fentanyl pills were worth $1.4 million. Navajo County Sheriff's deputies seized the suspected fentanyl pills during a traffic stop on Monday.

Senator Ron Johnson, R-Wisc, went after his Democratic challenger Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes over the implementation of "soft-on-crime polices."   "People don't feel safe in their neighborhoods and this is because of soft-on-crime policies," Johnson told "Special Report" on Wednesday, "I'm running against a lieutenant governor who, together with the governor, wanted to reduce our prison population by 50%.

Texas police have taken a couple's son into custody as a person of interest in his parents' double murder. Johnson County Deputies on Oct. 5 conducted a welfare check on Michael Scarlett, 66, and Kay Scarlett, 68, after receiving a phone call from a concerned family member who was unable to get in touch with the couple, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO).

Escambia County Public Schools, Florida considered a proposal to revise a policy to allow parents to decide what books their children can read. At the beginning of Escambia County schools' "special workshop" on Monday, school board members addressed concerns over books that have been accessible to students.The workshop stemmed from a teacher's claim last month that over 100 books in Escambia County Public Schools violated Florida law.  "I think at some point we have to know that we have professionals working for us that are evaluating, making decisions, based on the literature that is being proposed.

Liz Mathis, a Democrat who is seeking to represent the Iowa's 2nd Congressional District, said this week that defining a woman is a "tough question" and suggested that the only way to change controversial policies in a particular school district in the state is to vote for different board members. The remarks from Mathis came Monday during a meet and greet at the Waterloo, Iowa, Rotary Club, where she took questions from those in attendance on a number of subjects, including gender and education.
