A Scotland fan has been tested for suspected drink driving after a horror crash outside a German airport.The 25-year-old man drove on the wrong side of the road towards oncoming traffic, German police have confirmed.The fan along with four mates were in a hired Citroen C3 which ploughed into a Mercedes Benz S-Class outside Weeze Airport, near Dusseldorf.The head-on smash left six people injured, with two of those in a serious condition.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene outside the travel hub around 00.10am this morning.The five fans had jetted off from Edinburgh Airport on Thursday evening, and were on route to support the national team at the Euros before the collision early on Friday morning.German police have launched a probe into the crash and have confirmed they have taken blood samples from the driver of the rented Citroen.The Force says all of men, including the 45-year-old male driver of the Mercedes from Dusseldorf, have been taken to hospitals in the region.

Pictures from the scene showed suitcases and Scotland flags being pulled from the wreckage, with men pictured standing in kilts away from the crashed vehicles.

Other images showed ambulances queued up at the scene on the airport ring-route.A spokesperson for Kleve District Police in Germany said: " On Friday (June 14, 2024) at around 00:10 a.m., a traffic accident occurred on the airport ring in Weeze, in which two people were seriously injured and four people were slightly injured. "A 25-year-old Scotsman was traveling with four other men from Scotland (25, 23, 23 and 23 years old) in a rental car, a Citroen C3, after arriving at the airport to travel on to Düsseldorf.
