Tanya Kersey, the entrepreneur and entertainment journalist who founded the Hollywood Black Film Festival among other organizations, died of cardiac arrest in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
Her daughters Brittany Love, Monique Love and sister Lisa M. Kersey confirmed on Facebook that Kersey passed away on Monday evening.
She was 61. In a tribute, Lisa M. Kersey wrote that her sister had “been battling multiple health issues for many years” before “passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones,” adding: “She was a fighter and fought a long hard battle with dignity & grace.”Kersey founded the Hollywood Black Film Festival in 1998 as an event for upcoming and established Black filmmakers in the independent space.
She also the CEO and founder of the entertainment trade publication Black Talent News as well as its digital arm, BlackTalentNews.com.
