A building's spire collapsed into the street this morning as fierce flames ripped through the structure. The 17th century Stock Exchange was evacuated after being engulfed in flames.
Shocking pictures of the carnage show thick plumes of smoke billowing from the building in question, which houses several expensive artworks.
The antiques were salvaged from the wreckage of the Old Stock Exchange building, or Boersen, which was once Denmark's financial centre, by officials in Copenhagen. It is not yet know if anyone was injured in the blaze which was reported to police at around 8am local time, 7am in the UK, The Mirror reports.
A spokesperson said: "Due to a fire in Børsen, we have a strong presence in the centre of Copenhagen. Traffic towards the city on Knippelsbro is blocked."We expect the area to be cordoned off for a longer period of time.
