St Andrews Old Course Hotel fire sees smoke billow out as guests 'gather in car park'

A fire broke out at a luxury Scots hotel this morning. Emergency services were called to Old Course Hotel in St Andrews after the alarm was raised at around 7.15am on Saturday.

Reports on social media suggest guests were escorted outside after flames started in the laundry room.A picture taken from the scene showed smoke billowing up into the sky as firefighters quickly battled the blaze.

No one was injured and fire crews left the scene around an hour and a half later after ensuring the area was made safe.One eyewitness said: "I was there at 7 am and it was on fire - all hotel guests were in the car park.

Smoke coming out of the leisure side of the hotel."Another added: "Everyone is fine. Fire crews were quick and it was a quick evacuation."A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 7.15am on Saturday, December 24 to reports of a fire in a laundry room at Old Station Rd, St Andrews.“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and a height appliance to the scene.
