Council chiefs have unveiled a 'sneak peak' at their ambitious £10m plans for Ayr Citadel. It comes after officials saved the huge leisure centre from the axe as they promised a multi-million pound investment instead for the old complex. The Citadel looked to be on its last legs with the previous SNP administration set to flatten the ageing centre.

A brand new state-of-the-art £52m base was set to be built in the former Hourstons unit in the town. But the new administration voted in last May brought those plans to a halt and instead vowed to make improvements to the existing centre.

Now fresh images have shown how the revamp could shape up with a new spin studio and soft play centre. It comes as council officials revealed they have teamed up with multi-award winning leisure industry experts, Alliance Leisure, to develop initial proposals to revamp the centre.Pictures include an purpose built spin studio for the popular exercise classes.

The concept shows rows of exercise bikes in front of a large projector screen.Other concepts include a café and bar concept which features a cosy space and a bar area.
