Sir Paul McCartney pays tribute to former bandmate Denny Laine

Sir Paul McCartney has paid tribute to Mull of Kintyre singer Denny Laine, who passed away aged 79. Denny's wife Elizabeth confirmed that her husband passed away on Tuesday listening to Christmas music after battling with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD).

The star was known for being a guitarist with Paul McCartney's band Wings.McCartney took to Instagram to pay tribute to his mate who he described as a 'great talent with a fine sense of humour'.

Alongside an old picture of Denny taken by his late wife Linda McCartney, he penned: "I am very saddened to hear that my ex-bandmate, Denny Laine, has died. "I have many fond memories of my time with Denny: from the early days when The Beatles toured with the Moody Blues.

Our two bands had a lot of respect for each other and a lot of fun together. Denny joined Wings at the outset. He was an outstanding vocalist and guitar player.
