Scots villagers’ anger as grass is left to grow ‘five foot’ tall in housing estate

Residents living in a Plean housing estate fear they are in limbo over maintenance and ‘five foot high’ grass after the housebuilder collapsed.The area around Thornycroft Terrace and Willow Brae in the village was developed by Stewart Milne, with grass cutting in the area dealt with by an arrangement between the housebuilder and an external company, Greenbelt.But Stewart Milne were then put into administration by its director in January, with the company believed to owe more than £100million in debt to various creditors.For the residents in Plean, the impact has been to see the agreement with Greenbelt come to an end, kicking off a search for answers over responsibility for the land.One resident, who has lived in the area since 2003, told the Observer: “We have a communal playground across the road and the grass is five feet high in there.“The chute is now disappearing because of it and the amenities are just generally in a poor state.“It’s got too long to be sorted with our domestic lawnmowers and someone must be responsible for this land.“Our neighbour has two kids and my wife’s eyes are streaming with the length of the grass and I’m just concerned we’re going to end up seeing rats with somewhere for them to hide and building still going on for other houses here.
