A Scot named Connor McGregor was compared to his professional fighter namesake after he stripped to the waist and brawled bare chested.

The 23-year-old landed in court after becoming embroiled in a scuffle with police officers following a night out. Paisley Sheriff Court heard the first offender claimed he was out of control on the night in question because he had been spiked.

McGregor, of Linwood, Renfrewshire, admitted his guilt when he appeared in the dock earlier this month. He pleaded guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive way, in breach of Section 38(1) of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010.Prosecutor Amber Feeney told the court the drama unfolded just after midnight on October 26, 2021, in Pegasus Avenue, Paisley. She explained: "A call came in to the police with regards to the now accused, informing the police the accused was intoxicated and topless."Police witnesses arrived at the locus and saw the accused stepping towards them with his arms outstretched and began shouting, 'I'm not f****** talking to you'."Police witnesses got out of their vehicle and the accused calmed down considerably."However, after a short time he became aggressive again towards police officers, shouting, 'f*** off'."It was noted by police officers that his behaviour was extremely erratic and he continued to shout to police officers. The court heard he again opened his arms "in a challenging manner", tensed his arms and flailed them towards officers before they arrested him.Defence solicitor David Nicholson said: "Adopting an aggressive stance is more akin with his namesake's profession."This is not behaviour he would usually undertaken - far from it.
