Scots BT worker caught moving £130k of dirty money for crime gang

A BT engineer who was caught moving £130,000 of dirty money for a crime gang is facing jail. Dee Williams, 32, was snared during a police investigation into alleged drug offences.Officers swooped on Williams as he sat in a work van in the Palace Grounds in Hamilton, Lanarkshire.He told them they would not find drugs but that he had money.

A search found a rucksack containing £128,130 and he was arrested.Williams, of Glasgow, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted acquiring and possessing criminal property in June 2021 linked to serious organised crime.

Depute fiscal Neil Thomson said: "Police officers acting on intelligence that Mr Williams may be involved in serious organised crime, in particular drug offences, saw the accused in a vehicle alone."Police in plain clothes approached the vehicle and detained Mr Williams under the Misuse of Drugs Act and he stated 'there is no drugs, there is money'."A detailed search was carried out and a rucksack was found in the vehicle and that was searched and £128,130 in bank notes was recovered from within." Paul Sweeney, defending, said Williams had become embroiled with underworld figures due to his partner's drug debts.He said: "His partner ran up a significant drug debt of £2,500 but because he was employed with BT Openreach, those involved have wanted to use him to move drugs and money."He was threatened that things would happen to him, his partner and their children if he did not comply."Sheriff Ray Small deferred sentence on Williams until next month for reports and continued bail.But he warned the dad-of-three: "You have no previous convictions but you
