Heartbroken Scone restaurant owners have been forced to call off Christmas after a burst pipe in a flat above them flooded their premises.Laura Raimondi and Steven Dalton have had to cancel all pre-Christmas and New Year bookings at La Sicilyana as they count the cost of the extensive damage.Overnight on Sunday, as temperatures rose after weeks of freeze, water came flooding “like a waterfall” into the bistro and the floor was two inches under water when Steven came in on Monday afternoon. With the flat above empty, the fire service broke down the door to stop the deluge, but in doing so, cut off the coffee lounge and bistro’s water supply too.Steven explained: “It was total devastation.

Water was pouring through the ceiling. It was like a waterfall. And there was no one to call to make the deluge stop, I had no contact number for the empty flat above where the water was coming from.

All I could do was call 999.“We had added a new ceiling recently to soundproof and fireproof our bistro from the property above, but all that will have to come down now, the fire crew said it could collapse on us any time due to the water damage.“The floor was two inches under water.

It was like stepping into a paddling pool.“We had a full week of bookings, service for tables and groups was full-on until Friday 23.
