Labour has hit out at the government over a funding miscalculation that means Greater Manchester schools will receive £22m less than they were originally told they would get.

The Department for Education (DfE) has apologised for the 'technical error' in the announcement. Schools minister Nick Gibb confirmed in Parliament the provisional funding for schools for the next academic year in July.

But last month, the DfE admitted that officials made a mistake with that figure - which related to the number of pupils forecast to be in state education by then.

Labour says schools in Greater Manchester will be more than £22m worse off as a result of the government's 'staggering mathematical incompetence'.
