This is the moment a banned driver led cops on a wild chase through residential streets at almost 70mph. Caitlyn Thomas panicked at the sight of a police car and sped away from the officers. The 23-year-old, from Fairwater, Cardiff, was using cloned plates to disguise her recent ban as she drove in the city.

After spotting a marked cop vehicle, she zoomed off sparking a frantic pursuit, Wales Online reports.Footage from the chasing police car shows her Audi driving at high speeds through suburban areas of north Cardiff and running red lights as she tried to escape the pursuing officers. The chase came to an end in the Llanishen area after Thomas lost control of her car and was subsequently arrested.Police Sergeant Mike Williams said: "As evident in this shocking dashcam footage, Thomas’ driving was incredibly dangerously; driving into oncoming traffic, failing to stop at red lights, and driving at nearly 70pmh on residential streets. "She eventually lost control of the car on Heathwood Road, Llanishen, and was detained by officers.

It is a miracle that no one was injured as a result of her actions.”Thomas was charged and remanded the next day, and she pled guilty to driving whilst disqualified, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving without insurance.

At Cardiff Crown Court this week, she was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment, a three-year disqualification and a £185 fine. Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond. Sign up to our daily newsletter.
