BBC Radio 2 DJ Vernon Kay was forced to take a step back from his mid-morning show on Tuesday 24 September, marking another surprise change in the station's line up, hot on the heels of Zoe Ball's return to the Breakfast Show after a six-week break.

Gaby Roslin stepped in for Vernon, telling listeners: "Gaby in for Vernon Kay. It's a joy to be here." She added her well-wishes, saying: "Vernon, I hope your throat is feeling better.

I was listening yesterday, I love the show but did worry about your throat. So take it easy, no talking today." Vernon then updated his fans via Instagram regarding his absence from his usual 9.30am slot, cautioning them with: "Morning everyone, under doctors orders I'm resting my voice.

It should be alright tomorrow, but I'm going to slide away from the microphone this morning and just rest the vocal cords." Keen-eared listeners had already picked up on Vernon's unusually hoarse voice as he kicked off his Monday morning show, where he greeted Zoe Ball upon her return and confessed that his voice was failing.
