Alton Towers visitors were stopped from getting on one of its most popular rollercoasters on Tuesday. Riders at the Staffordshire attraction were left frustrated when staff members evacuated the queue for the Wicker Man ride to investigate a fire alarm.

Footage that has been shared online showed the wooden rollercoaster with a smoke effect coming from it, while a bellowing alarm sounded in the background.

An announcement can also be heard in the background telling riders to "leave immediately". Another shared a video of the scenes and captioned it: "You can't make this up, the fire alarm has triggered again." One fellow rider replied and asked: "Is that why it is paused?

I was literally about to get on." A spokespe, which travels up to the speed of 44 mph, is the UK's first new wooden coaster built in more than two decades.
