Pupils were forced to 'hide at the back of classrooms' and put on 'code red' after a Greater Manchester school was plunged into lockdown this afternoon.
Police raced to Droylsden Academy in Tameside at around 12:20pm to reports of an intruder on the premises. The school confirmed that 'lockdown procedures' were initiated, but that police are treating the incident as a hoax.
Concerned parents gathered outside the secondary school anxious to collect their children after what they called a 'shocking' and 'unsettling' afternoon. "She said they had to hide at the back or the classroom because there was an intruder in the building." Fatima Ali, 52, whose son is 11 said: “I only heard about it not that long ago.
