Prince Harry revealed in his memoir Spare he sought a "secret meeting" with King Charles and Prince William to address "the state of things" during his visit to the UK.The meeting, which took place when he returned to home soil for Prince Philip's funeral in April 2021, seemed like an opportune moment to have a heart-to-heart with his father and brother, the Duke of Sussex penned in his book.

The trip to London for his grandfather's send-off marked Harry's first time back on British soil since he and Meghan Markle renounced their roles as senior royals and relocated to the US, where they now reside with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. This encounter also came on the heels of Harry and the Duchess of Sussex's explosive sit-down with Oprah Winfrey, where they laid bare their Royal hardships and the driving forces behind their dramatic exit to start anew across the pond.

Released in January 2023, Spare captures Harry's tense anticipation for the family meeting, confessing his anxiety and fear that at one point, he suspected William and Charles might bail on the planned discussion reports the Mirror. However, he described a moment when he saw his father and brother approaching him with a "grim, almost menacing" expression.

The Duke remembered offering them "a weak smile", which was not returned, leaving him feeling "a hugely intense vulnerability".
