Police have been invited to help a Rochdale children’s home following a ‘significant number’ of incidents in which youngsters have gone missing.
The council-run home, which cannot be named, was rated ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted following a two day inspection in June. A report detailed ‘serious failures’ to protect young people - including those at risk of sexual exploitation - noting that children’s welfare was not always promoted or safeguarded.
Among the most concerning aspects was the number of incidents involving children going missing from home. The manager and staff acknowledged ‘their repeated inability’ to effectively monitor children’s activities.
Inspectors noted that, beyond phone calls or text, staff did not have a system for assuring themselves that children are safe.
