“Rapid action” to tackle repeated flooding in Perth has been demanded after heavy rain on Sunday night again put scores of residents on high alert.MP Pete Wishart called for action to prevent householders from living in “a permanent state of anxiety” after water levels rose in the darkness of September 10.Perth Community Flood Aid, a Facebook group set up following regular flooding from the Craigie Burn, posted of “another close call” as gardens were swamped in Croft Park and Murray Crescent.An elderly couple spoke of “water lapping at the steps” of their home near Darnhall tennis courts.When rain poured down around 8pm on Sunday, motorists encountered flooded streets at Glasgow Road, Riggs Road at the junction with Whitefriars Street and Glover Street at the roundabout.Water accumulated at regular trouble-spot Rose Crescent by the South Inch.Frustrated Croft Park resident Janice Haig shared pictures on Perth Community Flood Aid’s page of the water build up from the Craigie Burn, alerting householders of pollution as well as risk to homes presented by Sunday’s heavy rain showers.“Another close call last night,” she posted. “[I understand there was] 37mm of rain with 20mm of that falling in one hour.“The sewage system did not cope, flood gates were not closed and the Craigie Burn was extremely high too - hitting the bridge across it.”Janice, continuing, went on to explain: “Our garden was flooded and we had a few inches of water under the floor.”Janice has campaigned for homes at risk.
