Paul Di’Anno has sadly died. Iron Maiden’s lead singer on its first two albums passed away, a statement from his label on behalf of his family confirmed Monday (October 21).
No cause of death was announced, although he had been struggling with illness for several years. Keep reading to find out more… He became Iron Maiden’s lead singer from 1978 through 1981, and sang on the group’s self-titled debut album and its follow-up Killers.
He was replaced by Bruce Dickinson, who has remained the band’s singer ever since. Paul later fronted the bands Battlezone and Killers, and released several solo albums. “On behalf of his family, Conquest Music are sad to confirm the death of Paul Andrews, professionally known as Paul Di’Anno,” the statement reads, via Variety. “Paul passed away at his home in Salisbury at the age of 66.
Born in Chingford, East London on 17th May 1958, Paul first came to prominence as lead singer of English Heavy Metal band, Iron Maiden between 1978 and 1981.
