Paisley lout smashed car windscreen then confessed crime to owners

A Paisley man deliberately smashed a car windscreen – then went and told the owners what he had done.Jamie Colton, of Killoch Avenue, was so drunk he smashed the windscreen and back window of a Corsa for ‘no rhyme or reason’ on January 31 in Blackstoun Road.Colton, 30, caused £400 worth of damage to the car owned by people he didn’t know, and has now been ordered to pay back his victims who have been left out of pocket following the incident.Procurator fiscal depute Amber Feeney told Paisley Sheriff Court: “Two witnesses observed Colton standing in their path on January 31 this year.“They asked him what he was doing there and he stated, ‘I’ve just smashed in your car.’“The witnesses observed their Vauxhall Corsa to have a smashed windscreen and rear window.“The total value of damage was £400.” Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Defence agent James Arrol told the court Colton had no real explanation as to why he smashed the car windows and that he was “exceptionally inebriated” at the time.Mr Arrol explained: “Mr Colton has no real knowledge who these people are and has no rhyme or reason as to why he acted in this way.“He is very embarrassed and he is very sorry.“He had taken drink and drugs, smashed the window and went to the owner’s door to tell them.“During his interview he said, ‘I’m very sorry, I’m ashamed at what happened, I’m very sorry.“I don’t know what happened.’“Clearly he is apologetic and he has told me he would accept the chance to compensate the car
