I was one of the first people to watch Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX and it honestly blew me away. With Manchester Printworks being one of 30 theatres worldwide showing the 70mm IMAX format, it felt only right to give it a go.
The showing started at 11:00 pm and to my surprise, the cinema was full of people. The much-talked about release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie on the same day as Oppenheimer seems to have helped drive ticket sales for both films.

Oppenheimer, an American quantum physicist who played a vital part in the creation of the atomic bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima at the end of World War II. Information regarding the start and the aftermath of the nuclear catastrophe is given out instantly and draws you in. Split into colour and black and white, Nolan’s way of presenting the past (colour) and the present (black and white) was done excellently making it easy to differentiate when the scenes were set.
