OJ Simpson, the former NFL icon, passed away on Wednesday and his family has now disclosed their plans for his remains. The sports legend is set to be cremated this coming Tuesday in Las Vegas, with his relatives turning down requests for his brain to be given over to scientific study. The family of the American football star shared a heartfelt statement on social media confirming his passing.Their statement read: "On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer.
He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace." He had been battling prostate cancer.
Reports from the New York Post indicate that OJ's family have chosen cremation and have dismissed the idea of donating his brain for research into Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a condition linked to repeated concussions.
OJ was renowned for his time as a running back with the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers. Malcolm LaVergne, OJ's lawyer and the executor of his estate, has completed all necessary arrangements for the cremation.
