OAP, 84, dies after being struck by van in Blantyre

Police are appealing for dashcam footage after an 84-year-old man died in a fatal crash in Blantyre.At around 5.55pm on Tuesday, December 19, officers were called to a report of a collision involving a white Isuzu Grafter Flatbed van and a pedestrian on Glasgow Road.

Emergency services raced to the scene and the pensioner was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he sadly died the following day.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

The road was closed for around five hours to allow investigations to take place and reopened at around 11.05pm. Sergeant Gemma Blackadder said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died. “Our enquiries into this collision are ongoing, and I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the crash to please contact us. "I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area and who may have dashcam footage which could assist us to get in touch." Anyone with any information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting reference number 2896 of 19 December.
