New gypsy traveller site with stables approved for Ayrshire village

A brand new gypsy traveller site has been approved for Newmilns.Planners at East Ayrshire Council approved blueprints for the new facility which will include boundary fencing, parking, drainage infrastructure and a stable/paddock.The 0.97 hectare site, based two miles north of Newmilns near East Heads Stables, will host three chalets and parking for two vehicles at each residence.The applicant, Lynne Cameron, will make use of the stables and paddock for her miniature Shetland ponies, planning documents detail.A planning statement reads: "The proposal is for the change of use from a vacant field to three pitch gypsy/ traveller site, boundary fencing, central parking/turning area, drainage infrastructure and stable/ paddock on land at East Heads Farm, Newmilns, KA16 9LG."The stable and paddock are for the personal use and for the applicant's miniature Shetland ponies.

There are no other suitable sites for gypsy/travellers in the area nor is there understood to be a prospect of them being delivered to the standard proposed as part of this proposal."Each pitch will comprise a principal chalet, touring caravan, parking for two vehicles and an amenity block.

This is in line with the traditions and recognised lifestyle" of the gypsy/traveller community. The site would have a central parking / vehicle turning area.

Utilities connections and a relocated existing site road access will also be put in place ensuring that the development retains its rural character but meets the needs of the applicant and her immediate family who are members of the gypsy/traveller community."East Ayrshire planners rubber-stamped Ms Cameron's plans subject to conditions.
