Inbetweeners star Theo James left some fans gobsmacked when they heard his real accent during a promotional interview for Netflix's The Gentlemen.The 39 year old actor played American characters in the hugely popular HBO show The White Lotus, and also in the Divergent film series, so his Buckinghamshire origins came as a surprise to many of the new series' fans.Theo recently appeared on Capital Breakfast to chat about The Gentlemen, created by Guy Ritchie, and clips from the interview have since been flying around on TikTok.
One clip shows him talking about his time at Nottingham University, and fans couldn't believe his real accent. Comments flooded in, with one fan writing: "Why did I not expect his voice to be like that." Others echoed the sentiment, with comments like: "Since when did he sound like this," reports the Mirror, and "Why didn't I realise his voice was like this?" Another fan simply wrote: "HE TALKS LIKE THIS...! ? ?" In the chart-topping Netflix series, Theo plays Edward "Eddie" Horniman, the 13th Duke of Halstead and a former United Nations peacekeeping officer, alongside former Skins actress Kaya Scodelario and acting legend Ray Winstone.The actor addressed the confusion about his accent during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
In a show that aired last month, the host commented: "On the White Lotus you're American and now you seem to be totally English?" to which Theo replied: "Very English.
