Celebrities are often paid a LOT of money when they work for Netflix, but the streaming service wants to change the way actors and filmmakers are paid.
The streamer has historically paid large fees to talent that included compensation for the potential back-end salary they could have made through a theatrical release.
Now, Netflix is seemingly looking to change the pay structure to be similar to the old model. Through the new pay model, actors and filmmakers will be rewarded if their projects are considered to be hits for the streamer.
They’ll also be paid less in their upfront fees. Keep reading to find out more… Deadline reports that Netflix is considering “asking top talent to reduce their fees by between 20-30%, in exchange for giving them twice that amount on the back-end if the show or movie is successful, on top of other bonuses that are already part of Netflix’s package.” The new pay model will reward talent “for creating hits, rather than relying on the cost-plus model that sees stars, including top directors, get paid a big number upfront with little back-end.” Netflix will be presenting the new deal to top agents and managers at the “Netflix Explained” event on Tuesday morning (September 24) in Los Angeles.
