Manchester Airport update after passengers hit by huge queues and delays

Holidaymakers were faced with long queues and disruption at Manchester Airport following a global IT outage. Airlines were hit by the worldwide technical glitch, causing delays and some cancellations.

The airport said check-in and boarding had to be completed manually, which caused delays. Images sent to the Manchester Evening News showed holidaymakers queuing through the car park at terminal three.

One traveller said it had taken about an hour and 45 minutes to reach the terminal building. The airport said that the majority of flights were 'unaffected', but some shops within the terminals were also hit. In total today, 167 flights scheduled to depart UK airports were cancelled, with others delayed. A total of 171 flights which had been due to land in the country were cancelled following the glitch.
