A man punched a taxi driver in the face as he was driving before hurling racist abuse at him, a trial has heard. David Platt, 30, and a woman got into the taxi in Monsall before they asked to be taken to a convenience shop in Harpurhey, Manchester Crown Court heard.
Minutes later, they returned to the taxi and asked to be taken back, but gave the driver different instructions, leading him to a ‘dead end’ street, it was said. READ MORE: Thug told mother of his child 'I’m not going to stop until you’re dead' as he beat her in own home The driver then felt a ‘punch’ to the right side of his face, before he got out of the car, he told jurors.
The woman ran away, whilst Mr Platt, of Canons Grove, Monsall, shouted at the taxi driver: “I’m going to knock you out”, jurors heard.
He then allegedly said to the driver: “Look what you are wearing, P*** b*****d”. Mr Platt is charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and racially aggravated wounding, and is on trial at Manchester Crown Court.
