A man was stabbed and run over in 'retaliation' for a 'failed attack' in Ancoats, a trial has heard. Three men; Rushaun Brown, 24, Meshia Newby, 24, and Jermaine Leahong, 22, are charged with the murder of Neri Morse; an offence of wounding in relation to his 22-year-old nephew, Driece Morse; and having possession of an offensive weapon, namely a knife.

They each deny murder and wounding, and only Mr Brown has pleaded guilty to having possession of an offensive weapon, Mr Newby and Mr Leahong have entered not guilty pleas. On the first day of the trial, jurors heard that the three men attacked Neri Morse, 24, and his nephew in retaliation for an earlier incident in a shop in Ancoats.

Opening the case, prosecutor Paul Reid KC said that on April 20 this year, Mr Brown, Mr Newby and Mr Leahong were seen on CCTV arriving at Zafs GoLocal store on Butler Street at around 6.19pm.
