A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a shooting in Manchester. Police were called to Stockport Road in Ardwick on Thursday afternoon (21 December) after a firearm was discharged, near to McDonald's and the Apollo theatre.

Officers arrived at the scene at about 3pm. There were no reports of injuries, but a car was said to have been damaged. Greater Manchester Police said the suspect, aged in his 30s, was held on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody for questioning.

The arrest followed warrants carried out today at addresses in Ardwick and Middleton. Anthony Leigh, 23, of Plymouth Grove, Manchester has been charged. The force said in a statement: "Investigations are still ongoing and officers have appealed for information from anyone in the area at the time - photos, CCTV or dashcam footage can be uploaded to the Major Incident Public Portal at https://mipp.police.uk/operation/06GMP23A72-PO1.
