Planned upgrade works to a major roundabout on the Perth and Kinross border which have been beset by persistent delays look set to finally begin this year.

The locally-named Swallow Roundabout, near Invergowrie, will see improvements made to accommodate extra traffic accessing and leaving Springfield Properties’ Western Gateway housing development. The junction upgrades will include the installation of traffic lights, better pedestrian access and increasing the number of lanes.Work is due to start later this year - Springfield has not confirmed an exact start - with completion anticipated for autumn 2024.It comes after the housebuilder signed a Minute of Agreement with Transport Scotland.Finalising the design and improvement plans for the roundabout has been a complex project involving a number of stakeholders, including Dundee City Council and Transport Scotland. The Minute of Agreement is the culmination of extensive work and liaison between the parties and represents a pivotal stage for the junction work. The PA reported in October 2021 that the project took a major step forward after a settlement was reached to purchase a “ransom strip” of land nearby.A row over the area, due to a lack of clarity over ownership, held back proceedings for a number of years.Carse of Gowrie councillors Alasdair Bailey and Angus Forbes have previously criticised the delays, all the while understanding the need for the upgrade works. Both also fear the project will lead to an influx of rat-run vehicles through the nearby village of Invergowrie. The village is often used as for shortcut by motorists to bypass the roundabout, from Riverside Drive to the A90 southbound at Bullionfield.Dykes of Gray is one of Springfield’s Village developments
