A hooligan was caught on camera attacking a man in Piccadilly Gardens as a large group of 'protesters' pounced during disorder in the city centre.

Colin Demulder, 36, is the latest person to plead guilty to violent disorder. Manchester Magistrates' Court heard he was involved in a large-scale disturbance in the city centre on August 3. “Footage was obtained from social media which showed the group surrounding a lone black male and assaulting him,” prosecutor Hannah Nicholls said. The police quickly became involved and the defendant does not have the opportunity to do anything else.” No application was made for bail on his behalf.

Remanding Demulder, of Birch Lane, Longsight, into custody, District Judge Lucy Hogarthsaid: “You must understand how serious a nature of this offence is; a large group of people punching one male, in broad daylight, in full view of everybody - including the police.” He will next appear at Manchester Crown Court on August 16.
