Lanarkshire Karate kids enjoy Swede success in European event

A five-strong Lanarkshire Karate Academy team won 10 medals between them at the Swedish International Open earlier this month.A haul of three gold, four silver and three bronze medals meant the Airdrie organisation were presented with the award for best club for the third year in a row after the event, held at Kristianstad Arena on March 9.Gold was won by Sebastian Magilton (kumite boys 11 years), Heather Mackay (kata girls 10 years) and Ziva Alexander (kumite girls 10 years).Silver went to Ayla Armstrong (kata girls 10 years), Anna Smith (kumite girls 11 years), Sebastian Magilton (kata boys 11 years) and Heather Mackay (kumite girls 10 years).Ziva Alexander (kata girls 10 years), Anna Smith (kata girls 11 years) and Ayla Armstrong (kumite girls 10 years) all won bronze.Head coach Chantelle Allan said: “All five competitors medalled in both their kata and kumite categories, so that was a nice end to the day.“As always, there is lots to take away and work on.“We usually attend this event with a much larger group, so for the little team to bring in the medals and win us best team for the third year in a row was great.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onX via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
