Labour attacks SNP over state of Scottish economy as key government targets missed

Labour has attacked the SNP's handling of the Scottish economy as the party warned key government targets were being missed.

The National Strategy for Economic Transformation sets out 20 indicators to monitor the country's economic progress.But Labour said an annual progress report showed that nine of the 20 benchmarks had been missed.

This includes a sharp drop in the number of high-growth businesses, reduced digital skills in businesses, growing skills shortages, an increasing gender pay gap, and declining contract security.Labour said the SNP was "failing its own tests" and pledged to deliver the economic renewal the country needed.

The Scottish Government insisted it was "focused on delivering the most impact for businesses and communities across Scotland".Daniel Johnson, Scottish Labour economy spokesman, said: "16 years of SNP failure has left our economy weaker and Scotland poorer.
