A Kirkcudbrightshire woodlands charity is looking forward to branching out in 2023 after some impressive achievements. Top of the tree for Taliesin Community Woodland was being named Finest Community Woodland in Scotland last year.
And on January 29 the public is invited to celebrate the completion of key projects which helped win the award. The free event at the idyllic site near Gelston will include hands-on training on how to coppice a hazel wood.
Lunch around the fire will follow the two-hour session with the annual meeting rounding off the day. Trustee Jenny Stephenson is proud of Taliesin’s success – but would like to see youth have a bigger say in its future.
She said: “We are particularly looking for young people to get involved in the organisation as well as taking part in activities. “Schools, community groups and youth groups are also invited to use the land here. “It’s a great place to reconnect with each other and with nature.” Jenny described the past year as “hectic” – but plans are already in place for a new cycle of activities.
