A community-run caravan park in Kirkcudbright has turned a significant profit. The town’s development trust took on the running of Silvercraigs from the council in 2017 before being handed control of the site on a 25 year lease in 2019.And the latest accounts show that the site turned a £79,000 profit in 2021 – well up on when it was run by the local authority.Colin Wyper, who runs the site, said: “The last year the council ran it in 2015-16 the profit was £7,000 and the year before that it was just £400 so it’s quite a significant leap“Last year was the first time we didn’t put all the profits back into improvements but we still did some work and we retarred all the park.“We were shut quite a lot with Covid, but saying that when were open I think we were busy because of Covid and people couldn’t go away.“It’s looking like being a similar profit again this year.”
