Kate Forbes says Second Coming of Jesus could take place before IndyRef2

Kate Forbes has said the Second Coming of Jesus could happen sooner than a second referendum on Scottish independence.The former SNP leadership contender told an Edinburgh Fringe chat show that Christ could return at any time - but IndyRef2 could "take a bit more work".The MSP was speaking to comedian Matt Forde for the Political Party podcast in the capital.Forbes is a devout member of the Free Church of Scotland.

She came under fire for her views on gay marriage and having children outside of wedlock during the SNP leadership contest earlier this year.Forde asked Forbes towards the end of the show: “What is more likely in the next 10 years - the Second Coming or a second independence referendum?She replied: “Well that is both political and problematic.”When asked which was more desirable, Forbes laughed and said: “Oh my!”She went on: “I think they both have an equal likelihood of happening, but I think probably the Second Coming could happen at literally any time - in the next hour.“And probably the referendum is going to take a bit more work.”She did not say which was more desirable.Forbes finished second in the SNP leadership contest behind Humza Yousaf.

She picked up 48 per cent of the vote.When asked last week about running for leader in the future, she said "never say never".

She added in another interview that it was high time "we had a Highlander and the helm".The SNP has been unable to convince the UK Government to allow it to hold a second independence referendum.A high-profile court case ruled last year that the Scottish Parliament did not have power to hold such a vote.In a light-hearted end to the show, Forbes also said that she had wanted the England women's football team to win the World Cup Final on
