Jack Young insists his loan spell at Ayr United has given him the platform to launch his career down south.The 23-year-old has returned to parent club Wycombe Wanderers following the end of his short term deal at Somerset Park.

Young made 11 starts for the Honest Men after answering the early season SOS to patch up Ayr's injury-hit midfield. And he is adamant the experience north of the border has been a positive one despite United's struggles, which saw the club parting company with boss Lee Bullen yesterday.Speaking after his final game at Arbroath on Saturday, Young told the Ayrshire Post: "Being at Ayr has been the best experience of my career in terms of first team football.

My aim was to come up and play games first and foremost, and I'm happy with the level of involvement I got. Going back down south is a case of seeing what's next now in terms of the next stage of my development and my career.

I've got 18 months left at Wycombe so we'll see what the future holds. I'm just happy for the experience Ayr gave me and I feel it's made me a much better player for sure." The combative midfielder has also backed his former teammates to dig themselves out of the current form slump which ultimately ended with boss Bullen losing his job this week.Young added: "I saw the quality in training every day and there's no doubt in my mind there is a good squad of players there.
