A candidate in next week’s local elections has admitted being cautioned by police after videos emerged of him scratching a man’s car after a road rage confrontation.
According to a statement issued by political party Farnworth and Kearsley First, Mark Bailey, who is their candidate for Farnworth North in the May 2 local elections, ‘keyed’ the car of his victim on several occasions.
He was ordered by police to pay £2,328 to repair the damage and was given a conditional caution. Mr Bailey – who works in education, is a volunteer litter picker and also helps distribute food to underprivileged youngsters in the region – previously claimed on his campaign literature that he is the right person to ‘tackle anti-social behaviour’ in Farnworth North.
But he said his actions in damaging the vehicle were ‘idiotic’ and that he ‘wholeheartedly regrets and sincerely apologises’ for his lapse.
