Raising any amount of money for charity is inspiring. But after the loss of a sister, one 85-year-old local hero has committed over 30 years of fundraising to raise vital funds for a hospice.

And this is exactly the case for 85-year-old, Barbara Thackray, who will be running a 10km run on Sunday 1 September in honour of St.Ann’s Hospice.

After the passing of her sister Audrey in 1988, she has been a massive supporter for the hospice, being a big supporter for the charity for over 30 years, she has since raised over £26,000 for the hospice becoming a local hero. READ MORE: Empty pub in Hyde will now get a new lease of life Her efforts and fundraising is in support of the Build It Together Appeal from St Ann’s to raise £2 million to build a new hospice next door to their current building.

The new building will continue to provide vital care for patients, just like the current hospice 150 year old building in Heald Green has done, which was the building that her sister was a patient of.
