A school is to hold a demonstration next to a busy dual carriageway in a bid to get an extra crossing patrol. Parents, teachers, and pupils from St Matthew's C of E Primary in Stretford will take part next week.

They fear for the safety of the 190 pupils from the school, most of whom walk to school from the nearby Lacey Street estate.

They are calling for extra safety measures on Chester Road - a main route in and out of Manchester - which children and parents have to cross.

Stacey Cavanagh, a member of the school's leadership team and its child and family development officer and safeguarding lead, has written to Trafford Council requesting urgent action.
