A 15-year-old boy was left with catastrophic brain injuries after being struck by a speeding police car, a court has heard. The youngster was left in a persistent vegetative state following the smash on Boxing Day, 2020. PC De Meulemeester, 26, is on trial accused of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. She denies the charge. Opening the prosecution case, Mr Sandiford told the jury that the incident happened at about 9.30pm on a dark, rainy night on Garners Lane, Adswood.
The defendant was only a basic police driver, which meant she could only drive in accordance with the Highway Code and was not authorised to use police exemptions such as contravening keep left signs and speeding, he said.
