Martin Lewis was visibly incensed on this morning's Good Morning Britain as he confronted Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Lisa Nandy about the contentious cuts to winter fuel payments.The finance guru pressed Lisa, who he said had once been an advocate for the poorest, questioning why she was now "defending" Labour's controversial stance.
In a passionate address, show host Martin argued that numerous pensioners might be oblivious to the changes, insisting that Lisa should send them "bl***y letters", quickly adding an apology for his wording.
Despite Martin's approach, Lisa stood her ground calmly, sidestepping blame for the potential repercussions of the policy. "You have gone from 20,000 people a month claiming pension credit to 40,000 people a month claiming pension credit, but there are 780,000 people.
You would need an exponential rise in the number of people claiming pension credit for those pensioners this year. We have to accept; you have to accept," said Martin. "There will be hundreds of thousands of the poorest pensioners earning under 11,000 a year, which you will not reach this year.
