The buyout of Salford Community Stadium has taken the final step towards becoming a reality. Salford City Council took the decision to take full ownership of the site, formerly known as the AJ Bell Stadium, back in February.

Now town hall bosses look set to complete the buyout from their equal partner Peel - pending an official decision from the council cabinet on September 3.

Currently, the council owns 50 per cent of CosCos - the company which owns the site. This includes a 500 spaces car park, two training pitches, land assets as well as the stadium. It hosted the Rugby League World Cup in 2013 and will be one of the venues for the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2025. The available land around the Stadium Way site will be open to buyers and investors - which the council hopes will spark millions of pounds worth of investment as well as hundreds of new jobs in the area.
