Athletes from more than 200 countries will be competing in the Paris Olympic Games this summer. This year's competition officially begins with the opening ceremony along the River Seine on Friday night, July 26.
Hundreds of athletes are in France for the Games, hoping to take home medals for their countries in dozens of events. This year, the Olympics will run over 19 days and feature 34 sports and 47 disciplines in total.
In total, 202 nations will compete. However, some athletes are not competing for a country. Individual Neutral Athletes do not bring a delegation to the opening ceremony. A number of other athletes will compete for the Refugee Olympic Team.
