Sign up for the latest from M.E.N. political editor Jennifer WilliamsFormer health secretary Jeremy Hunt has called for a full national lockdown with the closure of schools and borders and a ban on all household mixing.The Conservative MP said tougher measures needed to be implemented "right away" as he warned that the pressures facing hospitals are “off-the-scale worse” than previous winter crises.In a series of tweets, Mr Hunt recommended that: "All schools should be closed, international travel stopped, household mixing limited and the tier system reviewed so that the highest tier really does bring down infection levels."He urged the government to limit the lockdown period to "12 weeks or so" in order to give the NHS time to vaccinate.
