A swan brought traffic to a near standstill earlier today, blocking off a lane on the M8 motorway at the Kingston Bridge. This isn't the first time that an animal has caused chaos on a Scottish road.

In fact, there are a handful of instances involving birds, cows and boars taking to the streets and blocking the way for motorists - sometimes during the already busy rush hour.

Here are just a few recent examples of animals parading along Scots roads. Last month two escaped cows sparked an emergency closure of a major Scots motorway.Police were called to the scene on the southbound carriageway of the M73 near the Gartcosh Interchange at J2A, where the runaway cows were spotted along the hard shoulder.

This isn't the first time that a cow has taken to a hard shoulder either. In 2020 a bovine beast was spotted by stunned drivers walking alongside the M8 at Harthill with police having to halt traffic until it was returned to its field.
